The power of privilege ✊🏾🖤
Trying to sum up years of pent up anger and frustration into a banner wasn’t easy. There was so much I felt I wanted to say to the system about the targeting of my community, unchallenged white privilege, the whitewashing of communities of colour... my list was endless.
Then after reflecting I realised that at least I had the luxury of being alive to reflect. Of being healthy enough to get out there and voice my frustrations. To be able witness such a powerful moment, and in that moment I recognised the ultimate privilege of having life.
I then thought about those who had that luxury taken from them. Then after reflecting I realised that at least I had the luxury of being alive to reflect. Of being healthy enough to get out there and voice my frustrations. To be able witness such a powerful moment.
I decided I wanted my banner to represent them. There were enough people here fighting for my frustrations, so here is to the people of #grenfell #markduggin #bellymujinga, and #stephenlawrence and every soul who couldn’t be there to share their version of events.
Thanks to the talented @federicomanasse for elevating my words so powerfully. We wanted it to be graphic but necessary. 🖤🎨
